Gábor Domokos has written two papers in the 2006 fall issue of The Mathematical Intelligencer, one of them with Péter Várkonyi, on results that arose in answer to a question posed by Arnol'd. Nomination of Editors for the Encyclopedia of Dynamical Systems

In addition to 'Scholar' and 'Curator' Scholarpedia now solicits volunteers for the role of 'Editor'. Editors of Scholarpedia will be elected by the public based on their scholarly achievements and reputation in the field (using the same procedure as election of authors).

Topics in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complexity

In the week of February 19-23, 2007, a workshop was held in Puebla, Mexico on "Topics in Nonlinear Dynamics and Complexity". The workshop brought together physicists and applied mathematicians working in nonlinear dynamics and related complex systems. Mike Henderson (IBM T. J. Watson Research Center) was there and reports on the meeting.

A brief biography of Carmen Chicone

Carmen Chicone is well known for his research in dynamical systems and applied mathematics. In May 2006, a Dynamical System Workshop was held at the University of Missouri-Columbia in honor of Carmen Chicone's 60th birthday (see also the report in DSWeb Magazine). DSWeb Tutorial Receives Honors

A portion of the DSWeb-featured tutorial on cardiac dynamics by Elizabeth Cherry and Flavio Fenton was awarded an honorable mention in the interactive media category of the 2006 Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge created by the National Science Foundation and the journal Science. An interview with the two appears in the November issue of SIAM News.

Airbus, nonlinear dynamics, and the A380

Over the past decade Airbus' Landing Gear Systems Group has been increasing its use of computer-based modeling and simulation technologies. The use of dynamical systems theory is playing an increasingly important role in identifying stability boundaries very quickly and efficiently. Etienne Coetzee, an employee at Airbus, Bristol, is a key driver of this development. Hinke Osinga talked to him on location at Airbus in Bristol to find out more about this exciting direction of research and how he got involved in it.
